Milos

Milos is a volcanic island located in the Aegean Sea. It is the most southwestern island in the Cyclades complex. Its capital is Plaka and formerly Zefiria, with a population of around 5,000 inhabitants. It is said that it took its name from the word “vilos” meaning sheep and then changed to “Milos”.

It has one of the largest natural ports in Greece in the settlement of Adamas and a smaller one in Apollonia. It is an island with mineral wealth such as obsidian, kaolin, pozzolana, concrete, perlite, etc.

In 1820 was found in Milos the statue of the goddess Aphrodite which now adorns the Louvre Museum. Because of the volcano you will find unique landscapes with different stones which constitute objects of study.

In the western part of the island, which is protected by the Natura 2000 network, you will enjoy its wild beauty. Also on this side you will meet the Mediterranean Seal Monachus Μonachus, the Red Viper of Milos and the Lizard. You will also see Achivadolimni which is considered the largest natural wetland in the Cyclades and is a stopover for migratory birds.

The settlements of Milos stand out for their unparalleled beauty while its beaches are famous all over the world for their crystal clear waters, stunning colours and unique natural landscapes. Indicatively we mention Sarakiniko, Mandrakia, Fyropotamos, Klima etc.
